Kimbala was founded by Madhu, a native of India who moved to the United States in 2000 and found it impossible to source a proper chai. After years of bringing his homemade chai recipe to friends' gatherings, he was encouraged to bottle it. Kimbala produces small-batch chai concentrates, ready-to-drink chai, a dirty chai concentrate, and a golden turmeric concentrate. The recipes are formulated without added sugars, preservatives, or heavy spices — a deliberate contrast to most commercially available chai products. The goal is to replicate the robust tea flavor and balanced spice profile found in traditional Indian chai.
Kimbala's coffee is selected from multi-generational farming families in the Western Ghats (Nilgiris Mountains) in Karnataka, India. Tea leaves for chai products are sourced from select estates in the Assam region of Eastern India, chosen for overall estate quality and commitment to tea leaf processing. Premium spices are sourced from regions within India that specialize in their production. Beverages and concentrates are brewed in small batches.
